This stool began with a small, quiet observation: the darkened feet of the artist’s pet rabbits. That contrast, subtle but unmistakable, became the point of departure for the piece. After its completion, the form revealed a deeper lineage. The darkened feet echo a long tradition in furniture making, from the sabot, the protective or decorative “shoe” fitted to the bottoms of legs in French furniture, to the sculptural foot details found in modern design.
What reads at first as a personal gesture opens onto a broader history, connecting vernacular utility to refined modernism, including echoes of designers such as Finn Juhl. The stool balances these references without quotation, allowing material, proportion, and finish to carry the conversation. It is grounded, slightly anthropomorphic, and attentive to where an object meets the floor.
