Montera Stool — JACKRABBIT STUDIO, 2024

From JACKRABBIT STUDIO’s debut 2024 collection comes the Montera Stool — a sculptural, standout piece that straddles function and art. Inspired by the montera hat worn by matadors, its shape is playful, elegant, and quietly bold.

The frame is crafted from ebonized oak, with a rich black finish that brings out the wood’s natural grain. Soft curves and a subtly asymmetric silhouette give it an organic presence — part furniture, part sculpture.

Topping it off is a circular bouclé cushion in a vibrant yellow. The texture and color create a joyful contrast with the dark wood, making the piece feel alive and inviting.

This particular stool was first shown at JACKRABBIT STUDIO’s first solo exhibiton "Please Touch"  at 495 Gallery in Catskill, NY

Perfect as extra seating, a sculptural ottoman, or simply as a conversation piece, the Montera balances composition, utility, and craftsmanship in equal measure.

About JACKRABBIT STUDIO:

Based in the Hudson Valley, Jackrabbit Studio is the creative workshop of designer and woodworker Brett Miller. Since launching the studio in 2017 (going full‑time in 2018), Miller has attracted attention for furniture that feels alive—bold, tactile, and surprisingly emotive.

Miller is known for forging sculptural objects out of wood, plaster, and upholstery. His work leans heavily into rounded, voluminous forms—pieces often described as “chubby” or cartoon‑like, yet grounded in solid craft and material quality.

Though aesthetics are distinctive, his approach remains intuitively driven. He began working at a lathe, shaping six-by-six pine lumber into cylinders and curves—not out of premeditation, but out of interest and play. What began as experimentation evolved into a signature style
